High Uintah Scout Camp July 14-19 2008

Well, we made it! Scout Camp was a success this year and we managed to avoid any serious injuries:) Camp was located 45 minutes outside of Vernal in the High Uintah's. The boys worked hard earning multiple merit badges a piece. We experienced everything from heat, to rain, to hail. However, that didn't stop us from progressing and enjoying the week. It was also a neat experience for the boys to earn their Duty to God patch. Thanks to all those who contributed and made it possible. We couldn't have done it without you!

I can ride my bike with no handlebars....

... no handlebars, no handlebars. In June 08 we continued the bike theme and rode another 25 miles. This one was more challenging that just riding downhill on the Provo River. There was some good uphill and some fun downhill. We rode on the roads this time. There wasn't much traffic other than cyclists. We saw a lot of wildlife too; bison, antelope, coyote, deer, snakes, bugs, nats, flys, bugs. Did I mention bugs? There were a few of them. Swarming. Biting. Bugging. We camped in White Rock Bay.Overall it was a fun trip. Congrats to everyone who finished the ride!

Bike Ride Down Provo River 4/08

We have started the Bicycling Merit Badge. It's Eagle required, but you have a choice to do it. You can get two of the three; Bicycling, Hiking and Swimming. This year we will complete all the rides needed. You will need to ride two 10 mile trips, two 15 milers, and two 25 milers. Once you have finished those six, you will need to ride a 50 mile trip within six hours. For our first 25 mile ride we rode downhill. We started four miles up the road from Victoria Park and ended up at the very end of the longest jetty at Utah lake marina. It was a nice peaceful ride. We tried to utilize the bike paths as much as possible. We had a few spills, but everyone that started finished. Here are the rest of the pictures!

Sand Dunes 3/08

This month we went to the Sand Dunes. The days were getting longer and it was nice to have light after dinner. We had a special 'no utensil' cooking camp. We made delicious hamburgers for dinner, followed by banana boats. For breakfast we boiled our eggs in cups we filled with water a put right in the fire. We had a blast at the dunes. Everyone got a taste of the sand. Some liked that taste more than others. Click here to see all the pictures.

Klondike 2/08

We went to the district Klondike in February. We made an AWESOME sled. It's all metal and looks amazing. We couldn't have done it without Evan Rockwell! We had a great time camping out in the snow. It was cold. We weren't allowed to have fires, unless they were 18" or more above ground. Again Evan came through with the fireplace. Jay helped out with 'cupping' action to grow the fire. As the metal got hotter the snow on the ground below it melted and turned to steam and then froze again in the cold night. It made these bizarre ice crystals form below the fire.

Lava Tubes 1/08

Our first campout of the year. We went to the lave tubes west of Meadow, UT. We had fun hiking through the caves and coming out at night. We also went to the hot springs that are just south. It was a great cold weather camp!
